St Columb's Cathedral will host a series of events which will see world-class musicians give recitals in the Cathedral. Artists will include Louis-Alexander Désiré from the Vienna Boys' Choir (March), internationally acclaimed virtuosos David Briggs and Kevin Bowyer (June and November) and a special weekend residency by Dr Barry Rose, former Master of the Choir at St Paul's Cathedral (October). Details of all the concerts and special events in 2007 are available in a brochure which is available from the Cathedral, or online at www.stcolumbscathedralchoir.com.
The Cathedral Organ was reopened in 2006 following a ten-year restoration project costing over £500,000. The instrument - one of the largest in Ireland - was officially inaugurated last autumn with spectacular concerts given by Carlo Curley and David Briggs.
The Dean of Derry, William Morton, stressed that the series of concerts was designed for people of all ages from the entire community: "The Cathedral is a tremendous asset to this city, in terms of spirituality, history and art. We have designed a series of concerts that can be enjoyed by both seasoned concert-goers and those who are interested in hearing organ music for the first time".
